Psalm 4:8 - I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
Have you ever heard this verse, or clung to the promises of it in your own life? I have, especially if I've felt anxious lying in my bed ready to sleep. It's a powerful verse and we can seek comfort in it.
I think also about how this verse relates to the children at CSC. It means a whole new thing for them when God brings them to this remarkable shelter. Nearly all of the children come from tragic circumstances and situations, and many used to lie down and sleep in non-peaceful or unsafe environments. They probably questioned what the next day would hold, especially wondering if they would have any nourishment, and how they would get it. Some feared what would happen if they disappointed or angered someone in their family. There probably also was fear of sickness or even death, a certain possibility when living in such unclean and polluted surroundings.
Then something changed, usually out of the child's control. He/she was referred to CSC, and the CSC staff had to make a decision whether or not there was room to taken in another child at that time. A simple "yes" holds powerful dividends for the baby, toddler, child, pre-teen, or teenager. That Y-E-S guarantees a comfortable bed, safe home, regular meals, medical care, quality education, regular bathing, love, care, compassion, respect, appreciation, dignity, and the teaching of the Lord and how they can have a loving relationship with Him. In addition to all of those basics, they are even able to revel in additional perks - fans to keep cool, a large yard to play in, friends, toys, outings (McDonald's is a favorite!), birthday acknowledgment and parties (most of them have never had one), Christmas fun, and more. CSC is paradise for these kids.
When someone in America visits CSC, they quickly understand that this is an incredible ministry, but they also notice the amazing simplicity in how this place functions. Even the bedrooms and beds are simple, but they are enough for this to be a five-star hotel compared to where these children have come from. We can definitely do that for them. Especially when it means they will be able to lie down every night and sleep in peace, with no fear while they sleep and no fear of what the next day will hold, knowing with confidence that the Lord will make them dwell in safety.
