Children's Shelter of Cebu

This entire blog was dedicated to writing about my experiences living in Cebu, Philippines and working at the incredible place called the Children's Shelter of Cebu (CSC). It is a remarkable ministry and God has sustained it faithfully for nearly 33 years.  Below I have listed some ways that you can hear more about CSC and become more involved.  I assure you, it's a quality ministry to support and stay up-to-date with!

Want to keep up on the ongoings of the Children's Shelter of Cebu?
CSC's website (http://www.cscshelter.org/) is regularly updated with news, pictures, videos, school updates, prayer requests, and staff blogs!  The blogs are listed in most-recent-written order on the site's front page!

If you aren't already on the CSC newsletter mailing list, you can be!  There are three newsletters mailed out every year, and they have pictures of the latest events/news and always cute pics of the kids! :)  To sign up to get the newsletters, just click here ------> http://www.cscshelter.org/news/newsletters.php.  You can also find back issues of the newsletter on our website!

Annual Banquet!
CSC has an annual celebration banquet that is held at Bethel University, usually in April.  This year's banquet is on Saturday, April 28th at 6:30pm.  Several former CSC children come with their adoptive families, and attendees have the opportunity to hear updates about the ministry and see pictures and video of the current kids.  The theme this year is "Father to the Fatherless."  The event is free, but you do need to RSVP.  If you are interested in attending, you can RSVP on the website.  Just click here ------->  http://www.cscshelter.org/shared/form.php?ZmlkPTcmcHY9MQ==   If you'd like more information, contact the CSC office - cscusa@cscshelter.org.  The banquet is always a wonderful experience and time to celebrate God's continued faithfulness to CSC!

Want to sponsor a CSC child?
Similar to Compassion and World Vision ministries, CSC has a program where you can be one of a few sponsors for one of our children.  It's $30 a month to be a Foster Friend.  In addition to getting a picture and regular updates of your child, you can write to them and they'll write you back!  The kids love talking about their Foster Friends, and love getting mail and writing them back!!  If you are interested in this, just click here -----> http://www.cscshelter.org/involved/ff.php.

Are you a prayer warrior?
Even though I'm not in Cebu anymore, I'd encourage you to keep praying for this ministry!!  They continually function on regular prayer support, which is crucial!!!  There is a place on the website that lists prayer requests - just click here -----> http://www.cscshelter.org/involved/chapel.php.  You can even be put on a list to get email prayer updates that come monthly!  The power of prayer is HUGE, as I've seen again and again.  This ministry needs continued prayer, and I'd encourage you to pray whenever God puts this amazing place on your heart!

Do you have a calling to adopt?
Some families have a special calling from God to adopt children into their family!  CSC's kids anxiously await families every day.  I witnessed their prayers both in class and at bedtime, asking God for a family.  CSC is an amazing short-term family for the kids, but the ideal place for them long-term is of course a real family.  Maybe God has given you the ability to add to your family and give some children in the world a family that will forever love and care for them, and provide for their needs.  CSC is not an adoption agency, but they work with the Philippine government and adoption agencies to match families with children.  There is a part on the webpage that answers questions about adoption!  Just click here ------->  http://www.cscshelter.org/kids/adoption.php

Has God asked you to give?
I can't help but put out a shameless plug for this ministry!! :D  If any of you are looking for a place/ministry to support financially, I would highly encourage and ask you to consider giving to this ministry!!!  They run completely on donations, both one-time gifts and regularly giving plans.  This is a high-quality place and I have been so impressed by how they use their funds wisely and responsibly.  I have seen first-hand the needs of running this ministry day-to-day.  These kids have verbally expressed how thankful they are for their homes, food, vitamins, clothes, medicine, medical care, toys, ability to go to school, and the workers/teachers/staff.  CSC is continually grateful for all the people who give to the ministry so they can continue to save these kids' lives and give them a second chance at life!!

You can also contact the CSC U.S. office at any time to inquire about any of these things - or just ask me. :)

Want to expand your view of the world?
Maybe God is calling you to take a trip somewhere to open your eyes to the needs in the world.  This doesn't even have to be outside of the United States.  There are plenty of places even in our hometowns that are excellent places for outreach/volunteering.  There's nothing like traveling overseas though too.  Keep an eye out for opportunities to join a missions trip or an outreach project.  You'll never regret it!  I never thought that going on a trip at 16 years old would change my life forever, but....it did!
