We often refer to CSC as a family. It is in so many ways!! One thing that's really fun for all of the kids is the abundance of friends and playmates here! With about 70 kids on our regular campus, there's always someone to play with or talk to. We have several sibling groups at CSC, and even though they remain quite close to their siblings, they love having so many other kids to hang out with too.
It is really fun to watch kids interact with kids that aren't their siblings. I especially love watching the older kids take the younger kids under their wings. They kind of play big brother/big sister roles to them, looking out for them just as much as they do their siblings. They'll push them on the swings, pull them in the wagons, help them learn how to walk, help feed them, teach them how to play "big-kid" games and use the bikes/rollerblades, and comfort them when they're upset. The little ones adore, trust, and enjoy these pseudo-big brothers and big sisters, and love all the attention they are given by them! These "big brothers" and "big sisters" probably give them far more love and attention than they ever even received from their parents/caregivers before coming to CSC.
I noticed these special bonds again last weekend when almost all of the kids went up to the school to be a part of a quick live feed for our CSC banquet in Minnesota. It was a little bit of work to get all of the kids, including the little ones, up there and staying patient while we waited for our cue from Minnesota. The big kids were a huge help though by holding the little ones and keeping them calm during the wait. The theme of the banquet in Minnesota this year was "Love Abounds at CSC". As the kids waited to make their live feed appearance at the banquet, love was most certainly abounding naturally as I looked around. I was reminded of what a blessing the CSC family is for ALL of our kids!
